The county commissioners met in regular session Monday and approved the usual bills. No reply from the Attorney General on legal points about issuing 100000 bonds for road repairs. Bonds sold at a premium. purchasers await AG decision before payment. Proceedings followed Cast State Highway Law. no blame on the board. A decision was expected, then rendered Tuesday. bond buyers to decide on accepting bonds.
Voters in the Bethel village school district will cast ballots next Friday on an $80,000 bond issue for school purposes. The district previously approved a bond to build a new school building that has since proved too small for patron needs.
The Clermont County Creamery Company held its semiannual meeting to review six months of business. They purchased 46 617 pounds of butter fat and paid farmers 14 464 dollars, improving farmer finances. Batavia merchants moved 1 500 dollars worth of butter. Production ran at 1 000 pounds daily, above capacity, and the operation has nearly doubled in a year. Supt. Ross, John Davis, and Ed DeCamp oversee butter making, while George Schwab handles fat collection. Farmers now supply high grade butter for market in the city.
Democrats anticipate a national campaign fund by popular subscription aiming to raise about 1.7 million dollars, surpassing prior efforts by roughly 600 thousand. W. W. Marsh, treasurer of the Democratic National Committee, disclosed the plan in Chicago last week.

A swarm of bees sought refuge among horses behind the Belfast Methodist church in Highland county last Sunday during services. The bees spooked the horses causing a stampede and forcing worshipers to flee the building. rescuers aided the frightened crowd and restored order after the incident.
Company K will depart for Camp Perry on July 22 for eight days of training unless called to the border sooner. The unit is ready for either assignment and in good condition. Captain Bechtel emphasizes target practice and drill, while Bata via praises her well drilled men.
John Johnson of Highland county drowned in the Rocky Fork creek mill dam last Sunday week. He went to wash his buggy and, unable to swim, disappeared in deep water before help arrived. The notice urges boys to learn swimming to prevent such accidents.
Charles M. Johnson sues Ed Colvin Lincoln Keever and Marion Keever in Highland County Common Pleas to stop ejectment from the Hotel Parker in Hillsboro. Lease required $90 rent paid 16 days after month end. payment was ready but not called for, basis for injunction. Georgetown party reportedly sought to take over the hotel while Johnson was in ill health. he is somewhat better now.
Promoters announce a Thursday parade in Williamsburg on July 6 at 9 80 a m to publicize the chautauqua affair. Decorated autos vehicles riders and pedestrians will participate in a grand last promotional event for the program.
The Batavia Concert Band held its first Saturday concert at the courthouse corner from 8 to 9 pm before a large audience. Refreshments were planned for band aid but none were served. The program featured new pieces and national airs, met with enthusiastic applause.
The Treasury will issue new designs for dimes quarters and half dollars. Mr. and Mrs. C. 8. Griffis celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with about 500 visitors at their home. The house was decorated with flowers and ferns, ice cream and cake were served, and many presents were given. A family dinner followed, four generations present and healthy.
Sparrows abandon the streets of Batavia as oiling keeps roads dust free but harms insect life. Health officials say the oil on birds and eggs prevents hatching, prompting birds to seek other fields of labor while fields become poor feeding grounds.
The wheat crop in the section is a failure for grain cutting and farmers are turning hogs, limiting threshing business. Rye may be cut, but wheat yields are small and not profitable at about 1 dollar per bushel.

The Eastern State of Batavia held its annual inspection last Friday evening with Mrs J D Wakefield as inspectress. The hall looked beautiful with suitable decorations and the degree staff in white robes. About 50 visitors from neighboring chapters attended. After business, ice cream cake and punch were served.
The tobacco crop grows slowly due to wet conditions, black root, and ant damage that exposes roots and dries feeders. Farmers have sold much of their crop early at 10 cents a pound, hoping for better prices as demand rises amid limited production. Results remain awaited.
Owensville Grange entertained Pomona on Saturday July 1 at Favrets hall and Odd Fellows hall. About 200 attended as 61 members enrolled in fifth degree and a full program followed with music lectures and a vacational paper. An all day Field Day at Bantam fair ground August 2 features sports and a keynote by Hon. L. J. Taber.

Judge Joseph presided Saturday over two divorce cases. Ada Fishback vs Chas W Fishback ended with Ada granted a divorce for extreme cruelty and the husband divested of all property rights. Thomas E Foster vs Nettie Foster ended with Nettie granted a divorce for neglect of duty and custody of the minor child awarded.
George Sullivan of Steubenville and Miss Helen Day of New Richmond wed at Judge Davis's Batavia home with Rev. Simpson officiating. Bride's father Harry Day sister Emma and brothers John Edward Allen and Mrs Seitz attended. Couple plans to live in Steubenville after a brief trip.
Batavia club routed Nichol of Cincinnati 18 to 2 at the ball park. Hugh Davidson homered and starred at bat, Ireton contributed strong batting, Guy Blair made superb catches and throws, while Simonton pitched with control and speed to shut down the visitors.
A man in a nearby county sent eight dozens of eggs packed in a crate to a customer by parcel post. The package was opened at the post office for inspection and the recipient was charged 5.78 for letter rates. The sender had saved 2 cents but the lesson stands to avoid concealed messages in parcels.
Jewell Lytle of Moscow hired a horse and buggy from White Livery Stables in New Richmond to go to Moscow but rode to Coney Island instead. He was bound over to the grand jury on alleged horse stealing and placed in jail for lack of bail. He will have a chance to explain.
Wild raspberries of a fine variety are abundant through Batavia timber and thickets. Cultivated crops fall short of the wild yield. Dew berries are on market at ordinary prices as birds are credited with spreading the fruit to distant fields and farms.
Holy communion services will be celebrated in Bantam Presbyterian church next Sunday afternoon. The quartet from Batavia Presbyterian church will sing. Judge Davis and P F Jamieson will assist elders in distributing the elements. All are cordially invited.
Batavia Scouts defeated Owensville 15 to 5 on Saturday proving the quick hitting and strong defense of the Batavia team. Jamieson pitched an excellent game with solid support from the defense and lineup throughout.
Milford held a busy Fourth of July with full departments, an extensive parade of various displays, attractive decorations, a popular ball game, and an evening band concert enjoyed by attendees from many areas. The day was a success and the committee earned thanks.
Fred Edgington of Washington township withdraws from the Representative race before the August primary after securing a government boat position on the Kentucky river. Norman L. Burnet and C. E. Smith remain in the contest.
Apples scarce across southern Ohio as early harvests are small and knotty. Quality is inferior and prices run high at about $1.60 per bushel. Overall yield may fall to about 10 percent of average.
Friends of Lieutenant Colonel Julius A Penn announce his promotion to colonel. He is stationed at Eagle Pass Texas and expects transfer to San Antonio to organize the new 87th infantry regiment. Batavia born Mr Py joins in congratulating him.
