Fire Causes Four Thousand Dollar Loss At Garden Store

Mt. Carmel residents estimate $4000 damage after a Monday fire at a two story storage building behind the Garden Store and nursery on Rt. 74. Firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to nearby homes. water lines crossed the state road amid traffic. Contents damaged include straw peat moss gardening tools and outdoor furniture.

United Appeal Drives to Launch in Five-County Area

The United Appeal campaign for Community Chest and Red Cross services will begin September 9 in Hamilton and Clermont Counties and three Northern Kentucky counties with a goal of 5 480 066. The goal is a 290 327 increase over last year and covers 116 Red Feather agencies and four county Red Cross branches. Local leaders Davis Sawyer and Schwab announced plans at a June 25 meeting in the Red Cross Building. Allocations will be set after the drive with budget reviews by committees.

Animal Hospital Opens in Mt Carmel

Mt Carmel in Clermont County welcomes a new small animal hospital led by Dr. F. Jerome Fix. The facility on Route 74 offers specialized treatment and surgery for small animals. Dr. Fix, Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine graduate, also serves in local polo circles.

Case worker named Bethel Vernon Kleine named for Clermont Welfare

Postpone Naming Full Time Nurse for Tuberculosis Care

The Clermont County Board of Health postponed naming a full time nurse for tuberculsis patients. The delay stems from unclear supervision designations. The proposal came from the Clermont County TB Society committee including John Friend, Earle B. Kincaid, and Ruth Pruiet.

Clermont County Highway Safety Council honored poster contest winners from public and parochial schools at the annual meeting June 21 at Batavia High School. Winners and absent students are listed with supervising staff and council officials in attendance and photographs from the event.

Indictments Returnled By Clermont Grand Jury

Clermont County Grand Jury indicted ten defendants on manslaughter and other charges after a two day session. Shirley Miller faces a second degree manslaughter count over a May 11 Newport crash that killed John Harvey Clark. The group also included indictments for indecent liberties non support assault and battery and resisting an officer. Several cases were ignored and one continued. The indicted will be arraigned before Judge Harry Britton this week. Sheriff Dericks praised jail operations.
