Attorney General Wade Ellis allows mileage for jurors but limits to one day and one trip. A mandamus suit will be filed in Hamilton county common pleas to force jurors to be paid for each day attended. The State board of uniform accounting had ruled jurors are not to receive mileage for more than one day.
William Stevenson, station agent at Hillsboro for the Cincinnati and Columbus Traction Company, was arrested in Cincinnati on a charge of embezzlement. Investigators say about 670 dollars missing from Norwood offices along with 90 in ten trip tickets. Stevenson admitted taking tickets and 20 in collections. He denied knowledge of most money and faces detectives reviewing his associates.
William Redmond stands trial after a December altercation in Milford that left Ferguson Bennett wounded by a pistol shot to the neck. Redmond says the shooting was accidental following a hunt as the jury hears the case.
A government employment drive promises that the people shall be supplied with work. Examinations for multiple civil service billets will be held in Clocton on March 20 for four weeks. Applicants must show fitness for the role. Leroy H. Zimmerman a Clermont county native and longtime Williamsburg resident died at his home on Thursday at age 72. A member of the 27th Ohio he served honorably in the Civil War and was a respected local figure. Funeral services were conducted at the M E church with the G A R Post leading the burial service.
Batavia reports influx of visitors seeking refuge from Ohio River floodwaters. At Judge Davis residence last week were Mrs. Roberts, Miss Anna Roberts, Miss Kathleen Davis, Mrs. Michael Davis and Mrs. J D Fee. At Judge Nichols home were Mrs. Eva Roberts and sons Masters David and Frank A Roberts.
