A large stock stable near Lancaster Pennsylvania owned by G Dawson Coleman of Lebanon burned last week. Fifty two registered Jersey cattle perished in their stalls along with thoroughbred dogs goats and game chickens. Some bulls valued at up to three thousand dollars.

The explosion was heard across the city and downriver to Chester. the last major fire at these works was in June 1878.
J Phil Krieger junior, cashier of the Broadway Savings Bank in St. Louis and treasurer of the school board, died by his own hand last week after a career of embezzlement and ruin. Once aided by his mistress Jennie Eickman, her death left him financially shattered and friendless, driving him to seek relief in morphine.
George Dussel a Jersey City liquor store owner enraged by a Mrs River and her widow status entered a New York house with a bottle of vitriol. He poured vitriol on Mrs River and her brother Mr Holmes who aided her, then emptied remaining vitriol on Mrs Holmes before escaping. In Pender County Abbey Howard an eighteen year old mother of an illegitimate child was cast out with her infant by her mother and stepfather during a cold spell. The child died and was found buried near a pond with a crushed skull and a bloody club nearby. Abbey Howard was jailed, suspected of killing the infant in a desperate act to avoid its freezing death.
