Clermont County Tax Rates Set With Broad Cuts

Taxpayers in Clermont County face generally lower rates in 1936 with 71 of 74 districts reduced. Bethel, Batavia, and Miami Township see increases due to local debt actions. Overall average cut is 2.65 mills, aided by bond retirement funds and the school foundation program. New Richmond and Newtonsville districts see notable reductions. County Auditor Blythe Jones credits staff for an equitable plan.

Grange News From Monroe Grange Meeting and Banquet

Monroe Grange No. 2018 held a regular session on January 17 with Frank Tatman receiving a grange pin for two years as master. Louise Rogers presented the pin as past worthy master. Juvenile members performed tableaux on Benjamin Franklin and a subordinates program followed. Next meeting set for January 31 with County Deputy J A Ashton as speaker.

Caldwell and Rapp Attend State Meet in Columbus

Robert Caldwell president and John B. Rapp secretary of the Clermont County Fair Board attended the State Fair Managers Association meeting in Columbus last Wednesday and Thursday. Byron Barbeau who recently underwent an operation in Cincinnati will be home this week.

The Clermont County Grange Lecturers Conference on January 11 elected officers: Ivah Woodmansee president Louise Rogers vice president and Louise Curtis secretary treasurer. Lunch followed with program ideas and readings by Minnie Cast and Rogers. Next meeting set for March 28 with Woodmansee.

Columbia Band to Play at Party Jan 30 in Batavia

The Columbia Gas and Electric Company band will perform an hour concert at the Clermont presidential birthday party on Thursday night Jan 30 at the O N G Armory Batavia. Proceeds support the national paralysis fund with 30 percent locally. Tickets 150 per couple or 100 single. The event includes a Wurlitzer Melody Kids floor show and dancing from 10 pm to 2 am.

Bake Sale by Batavia P T A Saturday

The Batavia P T A will sponsor a bake sale at Mrs. Doughman's store Saturday afternoon January 25 beginning at 2 o'clock. Forty Clermont County women attended the meat canning demonstration at the U B Church in Batavia last Saturday afternoon. Miss Lillian Brinkman Extension Nutritionalist from Ohio State University gave an actual demonstration of meat canning. Miss Brinkman was invited to conduct a vegetable canning demonstration in March.

Bank officers reelected at Batavia First National annual meeting

Fruit Growers Meet Thursday in Clermont County

The Clermont County Fruit Growers Assn holds its annual meeting at the U B Church this Thursday with guest speakers Dr. J H Gourley and Prof. Frank Beach from Ohio State University. The program starts at 10:00 a m and a free lunch is offered to attending members. Premiums from commercial sponsors include spray oil, fertilizers, a Pyrex gift set, garden tools, fruit trees, a spray gun, and several other prizes.

Mrs. Anna White Dies Suddenly In Church

Mrs. Anna B. White, niece of Mrs. Charles Jackson, died suddenly in a church Sunday morning. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Moore's funeral home conducted by Rev. Clark. Out of town attendees included her brother Rev. J. L. Madison and a daughter from Moticello Kentucky, and Mrs. Juanita Jackson Nelson of Toledo Ohio.
