A Clermont county editorial rails at Kentucky political corruption and local court abuses. It alleges the Democratic ring ousted infirmary director Thomas W. Intelligence reports the death of Mrs Anna Hartley McMillen at her Pulien Avenue home in Cincinnati last Wednesday. The Felicity native, 50, wife of Police Sergeant Theodore McMillen, was active in church and charity. funeral was in Cincinnati and interment in Felicity. Hattie Kinney Carley of Felicity died January 13 after a brief illness while husband traveled to Arizona. she was cherished in the community and buried from Mt Peasant church. Isaac Franklin Merriott of Felicity died at 54 after a religious life marked by community esteem. survived by a widow and three children.
Mrs George Marsh of Deerfield road near Boston died suddenly after a brief typhoid illness. The 26 year old widow left a husband and infant. Funeral services were held at her home and she was interred at Union cemetery Batavia. Deceased was highly regarded by relatives and the local community.
Stock sales at Johnson livery stables, suspended previously, will resume on the third Saturday in February and continue on the first Saturday each month. Farmers and others advised to attend. Also note advertising for Dean's Ointment cures itching piles at 50 cents per jar.
The commissioners rejected the bond of infirmary director elect Thomas W. Hill and declared the office vacant. W. H. Woods moved to appoint C. P. Witham to fill the vacancy. They awarded contracts to L. D. Maham for turnpike and bridge work and directed bids for new turnpikes to be opened February 14. Auditor Williams filed a protest in the Davis case and the board heard counsel. The meeting adjourned to a special session January 28.
A committee formed last August reports that thousands of dollars were illegally drawn from the county treasury by prominent citizens and officials. The investigation spans 11 years with Democratic county leadership, naming most officers except the recorder and prosecutor. The auditor allegedly exceeded legal limits by about 5,032 dollars. total suspected loss ranges from 25,000 to 30,000. The 12 page report details the findings.
At the annual election H L Nichols and P F Jamieson were re elected elders for three years. Trustees for one year include E K Parrott A A Moore Stanley Hulick C H Blanchard resigned Frank Davis Jr Allen B Nichols. Mrs. Della Nicholson was surprised Friday night when Locust Corner pupils entered her study to celebrate her birthday. About an hour later former Batavia pupils joined for a shared meal. Twenty seven students enjoyed songs games and festivities arranged by the young hosts.

The board noted Hill’s vacancy, questioned authority, and listed sureties James L. Brown Paul Rapp Thomas Glancy and Frank Bruick for a 2.00 bond. Hill and Dumford endorsed.
A man was run over and killed by a train at Jones's Station on the Pennsylvania line at 6 40 am. The victim was unnamed and a letter found on him addressed to Charles Simpson Hanley Texas signed by Anna Wainsor McKeesport Pennsylvania.
Loveland dispatch reports dispute over a young Simpson’s burial. His father’s order to ship the body was overridden for identification and burial at Miamiville cemetery. James Simpson of McKeesport PA, master mechanic at National Tube Co, identified the deceased as a son of wealthy parents who had been missing since July.
John D. Gatch of Milford marks his 821st year and 61 years as a Courier reader. He recalls the paper’s origins at Spring and Second streets with editor A. M. Gest and early staffer M. Jamieson, then roller boy. He notes deliveries by horseback, huckster wagon, omnibus, steam cars, and soon electricity.
The Adams County prosecuting attorney seeks a court order in the common pleas court against the county commissioners auditor and treasurer to stop paying 416 to publishers Davidson and Rucker for printing the Commissioners' report. Objections cite excessive charges and that New Era and Peebles News lack general circulation. Payments are paused pending court testing.
