Smell of Blood Sparks Ferocious Attack by Horse
William Stevens of Mt. Pisgah narrowly escaped injury last week when a horse reacted to the scent of blood. The animal became frantic, striking and biting as Stevens, the hog butcher, tried to defend himself and flee the stall. He was bruised and shaken but escaped in a desperate effort.

George Winder of Bethel, a Democrat and new justice of the peace, presided over the Ohio vs Elmer Sprague case. Sprague faced a charge of drawing a loaded shotgun with intent to kill, but the court found assault and fined him ten dollars plus costs.
