Ohio Highway Program Cuts Costs for 1982 Roadwork
The department of highways announces a 1982 program cutting about 6 million from earlier estimates and excluding 3.5 million of 1932 funds used for winter bridge work. It plans 854.1 miles of improvements, roughly 300 miles less than 1981, with one sixth of funds for the National Road. Auto licenses and gasoline taxes fund the program, with efforts to route receipts promptly to ease unemployment statewide.

Deputy auto license commissioner Estel Beck’s Bethel office was robbed Wednesday afternoon. Two masked men in mechanic attire entered, pistol whipped the cash register, and escaped with about $200 while Beck, six clerks, and bystanders were present.
