The Batavia fire siren is placed in the cupalo of the court house to project sound across town and miles around. It will run by electricity from the Bell Exchange with funds raised by public subscription. Operators at the Bell Exchange will manage wiring and activation, a system hoped never to be needed.

The Bata via Armory hosted the Legion Carnival last Friday night with booths featuring foreign representations and attractions. Highlights included a boxing match between James and Clark Gregg, a chop suey booth, a Hindoo magician, and dancing girls. Jail Delivery Attempted in Adams County
Sheriff reports an attempted jail escape at Adams County jail last week by prisoners Johnie Johnson and Alvin Blackwood, both tied to a gang robbed near Locust Grove. They began digging a wall hole using a ship auger, heated and shaped into a chisel, with work hidden by a loose stove door. The escape plan was detected when the hole was found in the wall and bricks removed prior to discovery.
