The death of Dr Colon Spence occurred at his home in Perintown on Friday. He was the county’s oldest practicing physician and mourned by many for his public service and social contributions. Buried Sunday with G A R honors. age 72? The obituary notes his lifelong vigor and benevolence.
A Cincinnati paper contrasts sensational Williamsburg coverage by space-hungry reporters. Police arrest 16 local youths tied to past thefts including a December child shooting and an aunt found dead, amid lurid sketches of wealth and tragedy.
George Snider and Oral Fryman confessed to the robbery and are jailed in Batavia awaiting grand jury action. The murdered aunt of Oral Fryman is Mrs. Sarah Gavis, and the shot girl is Inez Curtis. Edenton Horse Thief Association celebrates recovering two horses stolen from John Ferris of Edenton and W Scott of Goshen. The animals were traced via Milford New Town and Turkey Bottoms to Cincinnati, where Fred Buechert claimed purchase from a man named Collins. Reward offered. case to be pursued if evidence supports charges.

Billy King, a well known Clermont and Batavia resident and Democrat supporter, died at his Centreville home on Monday. A mild, farming man with a fondness for corn, he visited Batavia yearly to work his crops and remained loyal to General Jackson's party spirit. He made no enemies and is mourned by many who recalled his best days.
The November 29 murder case at Ripley nears resolution as Harvey Cunningham and Samuel Hameron were arrested at Averdeen on charges of complicity. Arthur Power, initially suspected for jealousy and involvement with the victim’s companion, has also been arrested. All three are jailed at Georgetown and a trial promises startling disclosures.

Fred Barrelmier, a Milford area farmer, visited friends in the city and drank heavily. In the early hours of Wednesday a scream from C Heineman’s residence led H to find Barrelmier injured in a back yard pool of blood with a fatal head wound. He died soon after at the hospital. Barrelmier, 45, left a small family in modest means.
A new counterfeit quarter eagle was presented for deposit last week and identified by bank president M Jamieson. He describes the coin as dated 1891 darker and smaller with a brassy oily feel and shallow deep milling, weight 87 grains lighter than genuine, and a wrinkle on the goddess face.
