The Amelia Woman's Club held its ninth anniversary and ex member reunion at Miss Cora Nave's home on New Year's afternoon from 2 to 5. Fifty guests attended with decorations in red and green and a luncheon served by Mrs. Mary Brown, Miss Laura Short, and Miss Helen Coulter.

Joseph B. Walker former Batavia resident later of Williamsburg died in Cincinnati last Thursday in his 80th year after a period of illness. He and his brother W R Walker once ran a Batavia pharmacy and later another in Williamsburg. Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p m at the Williamsburg Methodist church. He leaves a wife two adult children two brothers and many relatives and friends.
Prof George A Coe of Union Theological Seminary told the American Sociological Society in New York last week that church grip remains firm. He cited census figures showing population up 4 percent from 1890 to 1906 while church membership rose by a substantial but unspecified amount.
Supt G W Clemens attended Educational Associations in Columbus last week and met C W Bell general manager of the Interstate Lyceum System who offered him the post of local superintendent and manager of the Highland Park Chautauqua for 1910 Clemens has grown Amelia high school's enrollment to 800 over three years and attracted Bell's notice as a capable organizer.
Auditor Larkin instructs land appraisers: do not come to his office for supplies until he issues official notice to call and collect. The Courier reports the communication, clarifying the temporary access hold and forthcoming instructions.

The Ohio State Association of School Examiners ended its twenty sixth annual session at Central High School Columbus and voted against re examination of teachers. They seek to raise teaching to a professional level with lawyers and doctors.

Mr Eimer Boetoare and Miss Katherine Elleback wed in Batavia at the M. E. church on December 31 with Rev J Rames and Rev E Bordsall officiating. Henry D Henning and Miss Katherine Elleback united in marriage in Batavia with reception following at home.

Allen T. Cowen, longtime official stenographer for Clermont county courts, died at the Hamilton House rooms at 5 p m Tuesday from pleurisy after years of frail health. He was 46, born in Milford, but raised and esteemed in Batavia for his amiable temper and integrity. he previously served Batavia rural carriers who observed a Christmas holiday like others on New Year’s Day.
The year 1909 ended with cattle and hog prices breaking long standing Chicago market records. Early in the year shrinkage in supply kept farmers cautious, but the latter half saw prices rise, restoring returns and creating prosperity for American farmers as new ventures looked promising for the rural sector.
On January 27 the N and W railway runs a better farming train to Batavia arriving 20 pm with lecture cars and two exhibits. Mr and Mrs J R Woodlief celebrate fifty years of marriage at their Spring Street residence. Guests arrived unannounced, surprising the venerable couple whose long companionship has endured a half century. Warm greetings and cheerful recollections marked the celebration.
Last Friday in Frankfort Kentucky amended articles of incorporation for the Burley Tobacco Company. They eliminate the insurance feature while keeping the same provisions as prior, except there is no provision for insuring the tobacco.
