Dug Maphets, a long time C P V engineer, died in an on board accident near Red Bank while suiting up between runs. The fatal fall broke his neck as the engine lurched, his death instantaneous. He left a wife and four children and was a respected figure in Batavia, Portsmouth, and among railroad officials.
