The Director of Education outlines rules for foundation program funding after snow storms and cold weather. Closed schools use the next period’s attendance. open schools report actual attendance with an emergency reapportionment request. do not count every pupil present during emergency closures to avoid penalties.
State Representative John Hayden a Republican from Clermont County announced Monday his bid for re election. His work on good roads gained statewide attention and earned him a place on the Advisory Board of the State Highway Department. He will seek reelection on the strength of his assembly record.
The Clermont Soldiers Relief Commission reorganized with Quin Leonard as president Brice Hendrixson as secretary and Robert Flora as the other member. The three member board was sworn in before the session and will meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
Sterling Brown announces for probate judge as Republican and Democrat hopefuls enter the sheriff and commissioner races. New Richmond tobacco man Noah Powers joins the Republican slate alongside Manly Hill and Carroll A. Spencer. Democrat Harry R. Clark of Monroe Township also enters, with Richard Knause and J. M. Hutchinson among other local contenders.
Ripley tobacco market will close Thursday February 13 after a board of tobacco trade meeting. Little tobacco remains to be marketed in southern Ohio and northern Kentucky, giving growers time to deliver. Lexington, Kentucky markets may stay open later as usual. This week saw two sale days with 215445 pounds sold for 28405 dollars averaging 138.24 per lot, the season's lowest average due to poor quality and harsh weed.

With the amateur craze sweeping the country New Richmond announces an Amateur Night Program for Tuesday February 18 at the high school auditorium. The committee includes Charles Schens chairman Charles Frey Jesse Osborne Henry Schenz and Roy C Thompson.
World War II veterans in Clermont County are set to receive about half a million dollars under the revised Bonus Bill. Some 1200 veterans may get payments ranging from 1500 down to about 400, with blanks available through local legion posts.
The Laurel quartet won first prize in the adult class at the Amateur Laurel program held last Wednesday before a packed house. J R Carlisle of Amelia took second and Rose Mary Monjar of Amelia third. In the juvenile division Mary Savage won first and Jackie Smith placed second. Rose Mary Monjar later performed again at the New Richmond theater on Sunday night.
The Loveland National Farm Loan Association met Tuesday January 28 and elected Fred Yeemans Cozaddale president Emerson Snider Cozaddale vice president Forrest E Ely Batavia secretary treasurer Roy Philhower Goshen Henry Schubert Bethel and Ray Ferree Cozaddale directors. Loan committee members are Mr Schubert Mr Snider and Mr Philhower with the president and vice president serving alternately.
An Old Time Fiddlers contest will be held at the Amelia school auditorium Thursday night Feb. 27. Cash prizes will be awarded and entrants may contact Mrs. Frank Dillon in Amelia Ohio or call Batavia 2372.
Robert Dorsey manager of the Kroger store in Batavia welcomes a 9 pound girl born Sunday morning to his wife Ruth Kay. Both mother and baby Ruth Kay Dorsey are reported to be getting along nicely.
McKinley Mack Sauer former editor of Ripley Bee and current editor of Greenfield Republican announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Congress from the Sixth district. A Scioto County native Sauer is known as a speaker and newspaperman with past leadership in Ohio journalism and wartime Navy service. He has written for Colliers The Country Gentleman and others and is author of Not Possible to Classify. He resides in Greenfield where he belongs to the American Legion D A V Eagles Rotary M E Church Grange Masonic Lodge and has led local PTA efforts.
Clermont County teachers show strong affiliation with state and regional organizations. In eighteen rural districts fifteen have full enrollment in the Ohio Education Association Southwestern Ohio Association and Clermont County Teachers Association, with only five lacking membership for a 93 percent rate. High school districts report 1300 members at 95 percent with Amelia Batavia Bethel Felicity Goshen Milford New Richmond Owensville and Williamsburg all at full enrollment. Goshen leads with 100 percent in the National Education Association as well.
Fire partially destroys the home of Maxey Baker in Amelia shortly before 8 a m Monday. Baker, ill, was taken to a neighbor's house. Batavia fire crews arrived after a call from Amelia and contained the blaze to the second floor after noting water in the hose had frozen.
Pomona Grange in Clermont County sponsors games among subordinate Granges to fund lecturers’ trip to the Columbus conference March 28 to 27. First event at Owensville School February 13 at 8 pm features Owensville women vs Marathon women and Wayne men vs Williamsburg men under catch as catch can rules with 25 cent adults 10 cent children admission.
The Bethel Garden Club will stage an Amateur Program at Bethel School Auditorium on Thursday February 13 at eight pm to raise funds for a Burke Park drive through. Entrants from the county should contact committee chairs Mrs W E Groppenbacher Miss Marie Goodwin or Mrs W A Taylor by writing or calling. First prizes for adults and children will be cash with other merchandise prizes and door prizes.

The suit lists The State Teachers College Springfield Missouri Mt Pisgah Cemetery Association and Mt Pisgah M E Church trustees as defendants. Attorneys for plaintiffs are Nichols Speidel Nichols Frank A Roberts and Barnes and Young. Williams is represented by Davis Ely Ely. Hooper Lindsey a defendant previously was awarded a $1000 verdict against the estate for services rendered.
The new sales tax law requires vendors making exempted sales to keep records and use a properly signed exemption form. The five forms include Unit Certificate of Exemption, Blanket Certificate of Exemption, Unit Certificate of Resale, Blanket Certificate of Resale, and Certificate for Farmers Horticulturists or Floriculturists. Forms available after Thursday at the Courier office in Batavia.
Local No. 14 of the National Farmers Union will gather in the Probate Court room Tuesday night February 11 at 8 p m. All farmers are urged to attend this public session.
Charles J. Pierce, formerly of near Edenton, died last week in Evansville Indiana. He played local baseball and acted in community plays. The Monterey Presbyterian Church Ladies' Aid will sponsor an amateur program and social at the church Friday night February 14. Public invited. sandwiches and pie will be sold.
