Burned Out Farm Tenement in Batavia Destroyed by Fire
A small frame tenement on Mrs. M A Gregg’s Batavia township farm, occupied by Henry Schultz and family, burned early Thursday. Coals from an open fireplace likely caused the blaze. the family escaped as the roof collapsed. Loss included clothing and money. Mrs Schultz, with her infant, walked barefoot in night dress to a neighbor's home half a mile away. At Zanesville State Alliance meeting, resolutions urged free silver coinage, income tax, larger circulation, anti trust laws, direct election of president and senators, salary cuts, Sabbath enforcement, and opposition to liquor.
