Death of a Veteran John W. Robinson Dies in East End
John W. Robinson of Batavia died at his home in the East End last Sunday morning after about a week in confinement. A veteran carpenter and builder, he served in company E, 58th Ohio, during the Civil War. He was a Batavia post G A R member and buried with post honors on Tuesday at 2:30, aged about 70. He was twice married and survived by a brother James Robinson and a sister Mrs Eliza Kain.

Six hundred acres in Adams County have been bought by a colonists’ company from Galia and Lawrence counties. The settler group includes about fifty families, many experienced farmers, with others as mechanics and tradesmen. One priest plans to start a Catholic church in the settlement. The land had never been worked and was recently cleared of timber. The arrival is expected to be welcomed by nearby communities.
