A Cincinnati auto theft led thieves to the Mount Hugine school house where they were tracked by C W Daugherty and R W Colyer and son. Emma Armstrong notified Colyer, who alerted Daugherty. the pair alerted Bethel Marshal Fred Scott, who notified officials. The thieves fled toward New Richmond after leaving the car at the school house.

James Torrie a Pennsylvania Railroad baggage master aged 55 died after attempting to alight from a moving train in Cincinnati. He missed his footing and was mangled under cars, with head crushed and ribs broken. He had been among the road’s oldest-serving employees and was held in high regard by officials and coworkers.

Howard H. Gillard formerly of Milford and now working in Columbus gained admission to the bar last week. His Clermont County friends will be pleased by this success.
Chas. Seyler expands his garage to host more autos at once. The new space is bright and roomy and includes a power lathe and modern tools for automobile repair.
The Milford school board has installed its own electric light plant in the modern new school building to reduce night time auditorium lighting costs. The Owensville M E Sabbath school will host an oyster supper and watch meeting at the church lecture room on New Year’s Eve December 1, with everyone invited.
Southern Clermont county farmers held a two day institute in Laurel Monroe township December 15 and 16 with about 150 farmers wives and children present. State speakers Martindale and Tressler led discussions on clover corn alfalfa and the silo while music by Witschgar Bros. band and the Laurel male quartet accompanied sessions. The Ladies Aid served a dinner and about 1200 people including many teachers children attended. Organization for 1914 lists B E Gardner as chairman and M H McNeill as secretary.
The Batavia Concert Band plays a December 30 program at City Hall. Part I features March of the Mighty Hayes Overture Carousal and soloists Mr Cady and Dr Kumler with readings and selections. Part II includes Belmont Overture Wagner Tannhauser Reverie and a violin and piano piece with Mr Jamieson and Mr Dial.
The Moscow lecture series resumes Friday evening January 9 1914 with speaker A J Clere from Dear Old Kentucky. The event aims to improve town and surrounding community and encourages broad attendance after the December 10 premiere proved successful.
The Bataviae Gun Club plans its annual Christmas shoot on December 25 at Keen's coal yard near the N W railroad. Several expert marksmen are expected, and spectators are welcome to watch as good traps and excellent birds provide sport for all.
The three lower rooms of Batavia public schools enjoyed a Friday treat organized by the Mothers' Club with citizens and teachers. Boys provided a Christmas tree while the club decorated it and prepared candy, oranges, and apples. Santa Claus distributed the treats to all, with Miss Townsley’s class ending the day with exercises.
John A. Clark of Cincinnati has been offered the civil service manager post at $1800 yearly. He will oversee boards in Hamilton, Butler, Warren and Clermont counties as Jim Cox pushes cross road jobs under civil service. The boards will be Democratic housed and employees may feel pressure to support the boss.
