Born in 1845 in Batavia, he served in the 59th Ohio, earned injuries in Kentucky, moved to Cincinnati ten years ago as a commercial agent, and became a trusted director. His funeral was held in Cincinnati and he was buried in Union Cemetery.

Captain Orville Burke of Bethel died at home on Sunday December 19 at age sixty from lung trouble after a brief illness. An able and conscientious attorney and ardent Republican, he served bravely in the Civil War. He leaves a widow, grown children, and many friends who mourn his loss.

John Stroup aged 71 from two miles north of Williamsburg died while cutting firewood in nearby woods. His wife found him past supper time, laid across a log, the body later examined as heart disease claimed another victim.

A truck driver invited him in and after hearing his story of being brought from Columbus by a man promising a good home he provided warmth and a ticket home. The boy, seeking his mother, headed to Columbus with help from local volunteers.

Lycurgus White reports two men visited his Jeffersonville pike home asking his wife for deaths in the family and filling a memorial picture form with names ages and dates.
