A Clermont County Common Pleas docket lists numerous cases with dates and outcomes. Filings include divorces, alimony, custody, estates, and criminal indictments with judgments, demurrers, decedents, and hearings set for December 19 and 29, including mortgage disputes and a long list of trials and resolutions.
A compilation of proceedings includes Margaret F Slone versus John G Slone for divorce and alimony with claims of desertion and cruelty. Elia S Malott against G W Felter as executor for $900. James A Swick versus Hattie A Swick for divorce due to willful absence. Barton B Smitson versus Minerva Smitson for adultery. White and Heinrici versus First National Bank Batavia for $418 25 damages. Additional items note landlord James Brown deposited funds for creditors W H and Lewis Bank dispute over mortgage on Lewis tobacco crop and related bank denial. other cases include Jesse Clark versus Mattie Clark for divorce and Mary Estell versus Nancy J Allison et al partition.
The Batavia school board receives a directive from the State School Commissioner to enforce a recent State board order mandating vaccination for school children. The report notes local officials anticipate public acceptance from families and children.
John Connelly now of Cincinnati was recommended for appointment as gauger by Collector Dowling. The Secretary of the Treasury refused the appointment, citing that Connelly held a similar post under ex-Collector Bishop and that none of the old force would be recalled for duty this time.

Mrs Ed Anderson drawing a handkerchief from a pocket discharged a Derringer pistol injuring her wrist. Later the same day her baby fell down stairs dislocating a shoulder a rib and injuring the spine. Prof Clifford visiting from Connersville slipped on ice breaking two ribs and bruising himself.
Chris Clark a Batavia boy long resident in Cincinnati died at his home last Saturday in the 86th year. He was the youngest son of Isaiah and Elisabeth Clark and grandson of T. K. Holleman. A longtime United States Express employee he had just been promoted to a better position and leaves a wife.
Josiah Swisshelm Republican challenger for Adams County commissioner challenges M. H. Newman Democrat victory. Claims irregular ballot marking outside designated area and voter rejection plus general fraud. Swisshelm asserts Newman’s majority would have been 95 if the election had been fair. Newman currently holds the office pending further court action.
The second C C T A meeting at Amelia in the M E church featured talks on Reading and School Government, an influential paper on A Teacher's Influence, and a well received declamation. Music fell short with only two solos by Prof. Chatterton, while local talent hoped to perform.

Mrs Harriet Hicks mother of attorney Lewis Hicks died at his Market Street home on Monday afternoon the 18th instant. She was in her 76th year and had been ill about four weeks. The funeral will be held at 1 o’clock this afternoon from the residence. She was esteemed and cultured and well regarded among friends. A longer notice will appear in a future issue.
Mrs. Fanny Corbin wife of Gen. H. C. Corbin is gravely ill from a cancerous growth. The operation was performed at a private New York hospital and Gen. Corbin awaits the outcome at the Fifth Avenue Hotel as physicians give only faint hope for recovery.
The Western Star announces a five dollar cash reward for evidence that fixes beyond doubt the authorship of a prank report claiming a marriage between a Lebanon lady and a Mulberry Street bartender which did not occur. The paper condemns the joke as unworthy and unbelievable.
The past two weeks show light offerings with two lots reported and no declinations. The market remains dull amid holidays, with a drop in license calls blamed on free trade. Frazier and Altman of Bethel arrived, secured papers, wed, and left for home.

Intelligence of the death of Aaron Schafer a former citizen of this place was received last Saturday. He died of paralysis last Thursday aged about 65. He married in 1862 to a sister of Harvey Hamilton and had one daughter, Ella Jones, now in Cleveland. He once ran a nation Wagon and later joined the marble business then moved to Cleveland about fifteen years ago. His wife died about six years ago and he was a respected citizen in both towns. Also noted: Squire James Murray of Wayne township died of stomach cancer aged about 60, long-time Masonic member. Silas Muchmore of Edenton died on the 18th aged 51 from pneumonia.
