Williamsburg hosts Batavia in a Saturday night double header drawing a large crowd. Both Williamsburg boys and girls delivered strong performances and secured victories as eight auto loads of rooters traveled to support the teams.
On November 28 J B Turner received a pleasant birthday surprise with attendees including J J Turner S B McMahan Charles Nichols and families Mrs Lucinda Daugherty Virginia S Brown Mrs Pauline Lehrer Ebon Hancock and daughter Merle J J Uhl A C Lovel and wives Earl Hutchinson of Perintown. Refreshments were served and music by Amelia Turner Merle Hancock and Mrs A C Lovell. All departed wishing Mr Turner many returns and success in his new business in Lebanon.
The Batavia Woman's club met on Saturday the 9th with Mrs. D. K. McDonald. The program opened with two piano pieces by Mrs. Hatfield and included papers by Mrs. Aultman on The Plight of Poland and by Miss Baum on Polish Art and the War. Miss Hatfield and Miss Robinson contributed piano selections and readings including Poland's National Hymn.
Last Saturday night F. A. Brown returning to Batavia with high school girls from Williamsburg collided with Ray Carter of Williamsburg near Afton. Both cars were traveling slowly. no injuries. Brown’s auto lost a front wheel, Carter escaped with minor damage. Brown’s group transferred to Hackett’s car and proceeded. damaged vehicles were towed in later.
The County Corn Show and Institute Committee invites all interested to a Thursday 2 p.m. meeting at EK O Lease's office to plan a larger display and set the show date to be held in the armory.
At Mara thon Lodge No 203 F and A M a resolution notes the death of William Henry Hartman. The lodge expresses sympathy to his widow and daughters, drapes its furniture in mourning for 30 days, and to publish the resolutions in the Clermont Courier. A copy under seal is sent to the family and minutes kept.
William B Christie son of Robert and Rebecca was born January 16 1888 on his lifelong farm home. He died December 1 1916 at age 78 years 10 months 15 days after three years illness. He served in the 15th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was a Methodist class leader at Marathon. He married Mary M Williams on August 15 1869 and leaves four children Thomas Edward Clara and Nettie.
The time for Farmers Institutes is near. Clermont County has secured five meetings across the county with state speakers for a two day session. Locals should prepare music and local talent. The events are welcomed and considered informative and beneficial to farmers.
Russell Stanley of New Burlington died from peritonitis after a fall while hunting. He jumped from a fence and landed on elderberry stubble, causing abdominal injury. he was seventeen and from a prominent Greene County family, leaving many friends in sorrow.
