The Wabash Gazette reports a large ancient tusk discovered in Chili Miami county about nine feet underground near Eel river while men dredged a race in April. The piece measured six feet long with eight inch diameter, with a one foot fragment nearby. exposure caused the tusk to crumble.

A Buffalo Courier letter from Niagara Falls reports the disappearance and probable self-inflicted death of Mrs. J. G. Miller, wife of Major Miller US Army. Her belongings, including a wedding ring and crape shawl, were found on or near the bridge, suggesting a deliberate suicide. The case draws no clear motive, and the husband’s location is Florida while relatives in Detroit are involved.
On Wednesday the 2nd a fire destroyed the Providence R I residence of Mrs Anna A Jenkins. Mrs Jenkins and her eldest daughter Miss Sarah Jenkins perished in the flames. Mrs Jenkins was a wealthy benefactor active in charitable works and a Quaker whose philanthropy crossed sect lines. Sarah Jenkins, 22, was engaged to be married to a gentleman in New York.
