First trolley accident claims life on C. E. line

Young man George Houser was struck by a trolley car on the C. E. traction line near Nine Mile last Friday and died two hours later from injuries including a broken arm crushed ribs and lung injury. He was taken to Frank Sweitzer’s home where Drs. Ricker and son treated him but he did not survive. This marks the road's first fatality.

Soldiers Home Dayton reports heavy occupancy and vast food rations

Captain Dell Hulick notes 5 828 residents and staff at the Soldiers Home in Dayton with 471 on duty or ill, and an immense weekly intake of bread biscuits cookies pies meat and vegetables. Thanksgiving menu lists 4000 pounds dressed turkeys 180 gallons oysters 15 bushels apples 50 bushels sweet potatoes and more.

Kansas Teacher Reports Good Field For Educators

O L Steen a former Adams county teacher now living in Kansas writes the Defender of a strong demand for skilled educators. He notes teaching in Sedgwick county at 40 dollars monthly in his second year and says Kansas has 151 colleges and an average school wage near 40 dollars a month.

McClure’s fiction and a remedy promote a party night

The December McClure’s features Mr Potter’s Vacation a tale of stock battle on an ocean liner blending science art and romance with superb illustrations. Louis Buerkle completes a large ice house on the mill pond bank capable of storing two years’ supply. A ten horsepower engine powers storage and ice handling gear. Ohio State Horticultural Society meets in Clyde

The 8th annal session will be held in Clyde on the 16th 17th and 18th instants. A robust programme includes papers on horticulture with a large county delegation attending. Lowell Roudebuah of Nicholsville will present spraying for codling moth in Southern Ohio as premiums are offered for fruit flowers and displays.
