Isaac Simmons and his wife, longtime residents of Tranquility, lost about 4000 in cash hidden at home when three masked men bound them to chairs and rifled the house. Neighbors freed them that night. Simmons suspects local residents carried out the brutal theft and vows to aid detectives.
The Rev Ezra Boring a well known Clermont County Methodist preacher died at his daughter’s Evanston home after suffering from poison ivy related distress. His death followed being left alone briefly during a family absence. He was born 1818 near Felicity and had a long career as a missionary abolitionist in Kentucky and Illinois. He leaves a son and daughter and several grandchildren.
The piece ridicules Rev. C. A. Taylor for asserting hell lies 62 miles beneath the earths crust, with the author lampooning the idea and suggesting no material hell exists or is worldwide. It ends with a moral jab: do good and the gates of hell cannot prevail.

People grow tired of the grip but travel remains difficult, and hopes rise for a return to healthier conditions and traditional headlines.
Clermont man Joseph Leeds, a Mt. Holly resident, elected unanimously as manager of the California Traffic Association. Born in 181 in Clermont County, his railroad career spanned CB&Q, Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe, and Western traffic roles. His move to California likely ends his rail service until spring while his family remains in Mt. Holly.
The Hillsboro Gazette relates a tale from a probate court about a couple seeking a quick wedding. Reverend J W Elise is paid five silver dollars as the minister passes by, and the groom later discovers he owes three dollars for license and certificate, prompting a humorous dispute.

A Denton crowd advances toward a K of P lodge charter with L F A Williams of Ripley present November 18. Local businessmen signed the charter petition and the hall in J W Roush’s building is being prepared for the installation officers and a December meeting with nearly 100 visitors expected.
