Batavia Council Adopts Emergency Bond Ordinance

Ancor Named for Broadwell Nitrate Works Site
The Broadwell nitrate works site has been renamed Ancor and mail will use Ancor as the postmark. A work train connects Cincinnati with the site, and about 150 men were employed last week. Excavation, carpentry, and sewer work have begun with drivers and laborers paid 8.85 dollars per day. Carpenters, sawyers, hatchet men, linemen, and pipe layers are in high demand with good wages.

The Clermont county teacher count drops from 227 to 218 while supervision districts shrink from four to two. Miss Addabelfe Foster, a County Normal School graduate, is elected to a position in Greenville colored schools. Sept. A heavy storm last week damaged the southern county fruit belt with many trees blown down on Henderson farm owned by Mr Connelly. He ships apples to Cincinnati markets at $6 per barrel and holds about 2 000 barrels. Many apples are sold as dropped fruit while he promotes this year’s harvest.
