Foul Blow Ends Life at Felicity Ball Game
A Neville player Clay Larkin struck Charles Shock with a baseball bat during a Felicity ball game. Shock died three hours later. Coroner and police investigated. autopsy found death from the blow. Larkin, held for the grand jury, is described as a large man with a wife and child, remaining silent on motive. Shock was a Neville merchant, about 50, with four orphans.

Veteran Sergeant Magee Dies In Owensville Home
Robert Magee aged about 70, a Clermont county resident and Ohio light artillery veteran, died at his Owensville home on August 10 1899. A famed commercial traveler and optician, he served as Rosecrans’s orderly and aided Garfield in hospital care. He declined higher ranks, remained devoted to comrades, and was active in Masonic and Grand Army circles. Funeral, Owensville, conducted by Masons, with interment at Batavia Union Cemetery. Mason and Grand Army members led the procession.
