Sixth District Dems pick Lebanon as convention site

The Sixth Ohio District Democrats met at the Dennison House in Cincinnati to set dates and place for the congressional convention. Lebanon won the bid for September 4 with 203 delegates and representation by county. Candidates include John W. Lingo, Sims, and R F Trimble amid district faction tensions.

Eugene E Lee Former Batavian Dies in Kentucky Home

Eugene Emmett Lee, longtime Batavia resident and Kentucky newspaper pioneer, died in Owenton Kentucky after illness. He was born June 1838, worked in Batavia, helped establish a Republican paper in Owen ton, later ran the publication and farmed. He leaves a widow and a son and was mourned by many in Owen ton.

PROMINENT CLERMONTER DIES IN WASHINGTON

Alfred N. Robinson former county treasurer from 1876 to 1878 died at his Washington home on August 8 at about 75. A Democrat and respected citizen, he later served as a clerk in Washington through several administrations. His remains were brought to Miamiville for funeral services last Friday. Burial followed at wabinen cemetery.

Judge Brumback rules committees cannot probe past votes

Kansas City circuit judge Brumback ruled that using past voting as a basis to restrict who may vote in the next primary violates the U.S. Constitution. He stated the ballot is sacred and no party may bar a man from voting based on his previous ballot. The Clermont and other committees had imposed such restrictions.

Georgetown Tragedy: Man Slashes Wife’s Head in Altercation

William Clark of Georgetown fatally attacked his 66 year old wife with a razor during a Wednesday night dispute. He fled the scene and, as of now, has not been captured, with suspicions he crossed toward the Kentucky shore. The couple had resided in Georgetown for about six weeks.

Belfast octogenarian ends life amid insanity

Andrew Churchvillage an 82 year old Belfast resident living in the fields with his sons died by selfinflicted strangulation in the stable. An inquest verdict found temporary insanity caused the death. He leaves a widow and four children. Funeral services were planned for 9 am at the residence. Company K 1st O N G departed for Camp Pattison in Tuscarawas county with about 8000 soldiers and state encampment costs estimated at 90000 dollars.

Prominent Hotel Man Milton J. Kain Visits Batavia

Milton J. Kain, once Batavia night clerk at the Gibson House and day clerk at the Grand, rose to manager of Dayton’s Algonquin Hotel. He spent Sunday with his former neighbors, looking well and managing with a view to profit and guest satisfaction. Batavians were delighted to see him.

Tragic Electric Accident Kills 16-Year-Old at Withamsville

In Withamsville, Emerson Monjar aged about 16 died after tossing a spool of light wire over a trolley line. The contact caused a fatal spark as a younger brother and the mother who tried to help were severely burned. William Monjar’s family received widespread public sympathy. Funeral services were held at the M E church yesterday afternoon.

Mil ford Bull Dog Ends After Attacking Four

A red eyed stray bulldog enters Milford and bites four people including a Mayors' son and Miss Essie Turner. After wounds are treated, Mayor Turner executes the dog with a pistol. Also reported is the 79th Olio Volunteers reunion at Loveland with H. C. Corbin addressing veterans. The regiment traces to Warren Clinton and Hamilton counties.
