General Hatch with Adjutant General Finley and Interior Inspector Green ordered Payne and his followers near Rock Fall Indian Country to leave before morning. Payne abused officers as they burned the camp boarding house store and dwellings. the camp, office, and town site were set ablaze. The group was escorted 300 miles to Fort Smith Arkansas.
A Canton dispatch reports rapid French and Chinese hostilities preparations with extensive military works under way. Engineers and artillery are deployed, coastlines fortified, with river defenses set to block approaching war vessels as tensions rise.
Rowessure West Virginia August 7 John Carrico and Herman Weltman were practicing with revolvers when John Wiles was shot in the right shoulder. The 432 caliber ball is missing. Doctors fear it lodged in the shoulder and he is expected to recover. Carrico and Weltman are well known on the Baltimore and Ohio line.
An analysis shows water used in Marseilles Aix and Arles teeming with microbes. Marseilles plans public works to provide work for the unemployed as cholera deaths rise in Marseilles Arles and Toulon. In New York William J Lensing a Cohoes lawyer was arraigned for drunkenness after attempting to injure himself in court. He then drank from an oil can at the station.

Four earthquakes struck Frascati, Bano, and Castello near Rome in the early hours, with tremors reported across the area. No injuries or damage details are provided in the report.

Information from Holden indicates James Ashby, deemed insane for two years, resisted custody by guardian W. F. Hess and the city marshal. With help from a friend Bailey he obtained a bulldog revolver, mortally wounding Hess and wounding the guardian, then fled. Authorities pursued and captured Ashby, who was jailed.
General Sheridan and Secretary Lincoln arrived at Gettyspurg pa this morning and were escorted to the Pennsylvania National encampment by Adjutant General North and the cavalry. A crowd gathered for the review this afternoon and at five o'clock they inspected the eight thousand troops in camp before a line in review lasting an hour.

In Independence Missouri on August 6 Frank James was given a buggy and saddle by friends in Marshall for his son Robbie's use. James immediately hitched his blooded horse, recently acquired, to the rig and rode into town in a fine display. The horse was previously used by James before his surrender and is described as a superb specimen.
Latest dispatches from Lonpor report that Chinese authorities stopped the courier link between Foo Chow and the telegraph cable landing site. Paris notes Figaro saying Admiral Courbet is ordered to bombard Foo Chow Arsenal if the garrison does not surrender.

A sleeping car of Barnum's circus on a Jamestown, New York sidetrack caught fire this morning. Chang the Chinese giant and his manager Mr. Cameron narrowly escaped. Chang lost a gold watch seven thousand dollars in cash and many diamonds presented by the czar emperor of Austria and emperor of Prussia and a watch and chain from Queen Victoria. Cameron lost six hundred dollars in cash and a gold watch. A replacement car will be sent from Erie.
W B McBride reports William Owens, a California miner, was found near Kicking Horse River in a famished state. Owens said he and Jos Williamson left Kamloops June 14 aiming for the Columbia River. after six days without food Williamson died and Owens ate parts of his body to survive. He carried a large money roll as authorities begin an inquiry.
Paris reports twenty four cholera deaths in Marseilles over the last day. Toulon hospitals show nine admissions eight discharges three deaths and eighty six under treatment. La Seyne records two deaths. Rome notes three new cholera cases. Cairo Monte notte report fresh cases and other Italian towns log limited activity with two under treatment in Pancalieri and Ossasio.
Mr Dixon Mrs Dixon their two children and a man named Cuff were struck by a Reading locomotive at Connor Station. Mr Dixon, one child, and Cuff were killed instantly. The horses were killed and the carriage demolished. The vet and infant survived. The party had been returning from a funeral.
Four young men were arrested after a disturbance with the Salvation Army in Scuenecrapy New York. Fifteen hundred supporters followed the prisoners to the station and menaced officers, with threats to burn the army barracks and fears of a riot tonight prompting police precautions.
