The five story brick building at 117 Nassau Street owned by the American Bible Society and occupied by Daniel Fanshaw’s printing works caught fire. Firefighters saved much, but interiors and presses were destroyed or damaged, with Fanshaw facing large losses while the Bible Society and insured property may be fully covered by insurance. The building’s main rooms and archival editions were affected, and this is the third near miss for the Society’s Depository within a year. Fanshaw thanks the firemen for their extraordinary efforts.
