In Clermont County 4-Hers sweat over fair preparations as a Kentucky bound Army Reserve battalion from Cincinnati trains near Fort Knox. The fair marks Ohio 4-H’s Golden Anniversary with projects showcased by three local youths amid festive county pride.
In Perintown Ohio fourteen cousins contest the will of William W Dietz filed in Clermont County Common Pleas Court. Dietz left his entire twenty eight thousand dollar estate to Grace Ann Dietz Gall citing her kindness to him and his deceased sister Clara Ann Dietz. The suit names Mabel Dietz Jones Andrew Dietz Horace Gibbs Lennie Gibbs Sears Edward C Gibbs Donald L Black Maye Black Smith Lewis F Dietz Martha Dietz Coy Ada Dietz Wollard Frank Schneider Joseph E Gibbs John W Gibbs and Ethel Crawford as contestants.
Clermont County Commissioners accepted the Wiley Croswell Post American Legion bid for a veteran housing unit in Felicity Ohio. The sale occurred at public auction with a high bid of 150 dollars. Prosecutor Ray Bradford was directed to prepare the bill of sale to the post.
The article notes Davis relies on touch for work and will be transported to the fair grounds each morning by Charles Schneider of Rotary, with a Courier representative returning him home each evening, a four year situation.
Mabel G Young of Mt Carmel Road is recovering from a severe hand injury suffered when her hand was cut by a falling winger in her home.
Carl J. Nause was indicted for first degree manslaughter and released on $2000 bond after facing Judge Harry Britton. The Clermont County grand jury returned 19 indictments in a four day session, while 18 of 97 cases were ignored. Indicted defendants include Eddie Moore, William Ayres, William Tuggle, Robert Moore, and others for assault, larceny, DUI, arson, breaking and entering, nonsupport and related charges.
An August 10 auto race at Glen Este Race Bowl Route 74 features 100 laps with the winner claiming all cars entered. Entries limited to 1940 or older cars, open to any driver. The event offers the entered automobiles as the prize, with a large turnout expected and picnic/fishing facilities nearby. Weekend program includes time trials at 7:30 p.m. and racing at 8:30. Oakley speed demon Carl Kaiser won last Sunday’s 30-lap feature, J R Pennick took the 20-lap semi, and Buck Gilpin won the consolation.
Two grass fires were extinguished Sunday afternoon by the New Richmond fire department led by Chief Freddie. Firefighters battled flames at two locations, containing the spread and preventing further damage. No injuries reported.
The program lists 2:15 p m racing and free acts daily with 7 p m horse show and novelty acts. Friday begins at 10 a m with judging and Junior Fair exhibits then 2:15 p m pacing and free acts. Saturday opens with a grand parade of preparum livestock Junior Fair and farm equipment at 11 a m with an officers election 12 30 style show then more racing and horse shows at 2 15 p m and 7 p m.
Amelia Boy wins in the Fisher Body model car contest. Benson of Lodi was mentioned as a participant or observer in the event, highlighting local involvement in the competition.
Cincinnati police cited Roy Brunk of Goshen, 32, for running a red light after a crash that killed him and left three passengers injured. Passengers Anna Jones and Gert rude Bently, among others, suffered possible injuries while Brunk claimed brake failure. A separate item notes Lt. Thomas Edgar Jenike, 27, formerly of Ba, who died during a tragedy near Mavassa island off the Cuban coast amid maneuvers.
