New Superintendent Takes Over in Clermont County Schools

Roy C. Thompson of New Richmond becomes Clermont County Superintendent of Schools this week succeeding Frank B. Hoggatt who retires to Goshen. Thompson vows closer cooperation between schools and communities and better schools with uniform standards. He holds an M A from the University of Cincinnati and A B from Concord State Teachers College.

Wheat Referendum Set for August 14 in Clermont County

The Wheat Marketing Quota referendum will be held August 14 at the county PMA office in Batavia from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chairman Hill urges all eligible wheat growers to vote. A two thirds yes result sustains quotas with loans at 90 percent of parity. a no result ends quotas and cuts 1954 wheat support to 50 percent for cooperators.

Apparent self inflicted injury to Clermont County janitor

Thomas Hewitt a 66 year old janitor at the Clermont County courthouse was reported in good condition after an apparent suicide attempt Friday. He was found by Percy Newberry with whom he lived and rushed to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital after first aid by Dr. Philip Dobert. Hewitt is a father of six and separated from his wife.

Mother Backed Car Over 3 Year Old Son in Cincinnati

James Clark 3 of Cincinnati was rushed to Children’s Hospital after his mother accidentally backed a car over him while visiting relatives. The child was lifted from beneath the vehicle and believed to be in serious condition. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Jay Clark of 931 Paradrome Street.

BMOP Department to Get Pumper in Four Weeks

The BMOP Fire Department will receive a new Civilian Defense fire pumper built in Cincinnati and delivered to Hamlet, Ohio, in about four weeks. Fire Captains Luther Pollitt and William Hadley attended Columbus training on the vehicle’s operation, with several local and regional officials traveling to observe. A parade and formal opening of the department’s new building on Route 125 will mark its arrival.

Felicity Minister And Wife Injured In Auto Crash

The Rev. Bert O Connor and his wife Eva Florence O Connor were hospitalized in Mercy Hospital Portsmouth after a late Monday crash on Route 52 near Wheelersburg. The minister, 56, suffered rib and leg injuries. his wife, 53, likely fractured left foot and bruises. State patrol said their car was struck by Henry A. Cook, 45, of Franklin Furnace and Cook’s car went through a guard rail down a 20 foot embankment. Cook faces driving left of center charges in Mayor Vernal Biffle’s New Boston court.

$75 000 Damage Suit Hearing Set

The hearing for a $75 000 damage suit filed by Beryl K. Hillard of Monterey against the Standard Oil Company of Ohio is set for August 10. Judge Harry Britton of Common Pleas Court will preside. The case stems from a November 1951 accident involving a company tractor-trailer and a car.

Clermont County Women and Citizens Republican Clubs plan a public meeting at 8 p.m. August 15 at Williamsburg school honoring the late Senator Robert A. Taft. Lt Governor John Brown will be the main speaker. Taft often visited Clermont County, staying at attorney Forrest Ely's Batavia home.

Williamsville Man In Serious Condition After Crash

St Marys Hospital Cincinnati reported Wednesday that William Pete McCord of Glen Este Road remained in serious condition. He was injured in an auto accident Sunday when the car he rode in lost control and hit a tree on Route 125 in front of Dr. Paul Baurichter's residence. The car, driven by his cousin Joe Atkins, was not damaged, and Atkins was uninjured.

Wounded Marine Reports Injuries From Korea Hospital

Pfc. L Mackie Myers USMC writes from the hospital ship Repose in Inchon Harbor that his left arm and shoulder were wounded by shrapnel during a July 20 counter attack in the Berlin and East Berlin outpost area in Korea He has been in Korea six weeks and writes to his parents Mr and Mrs Loring M Myers from Milford Ohio.

Mann Charged With Failing To Provide For Two Children

Mann 39 was arrested on a warrant for failing to provide for his two minor children. The warrant was issued by Clermont County welfare director Sam Ausman after Mann allegedly visited a wounded Bethel widow at Brown County Hospital. The widow’s injury was linked to Mann’s 18 year old daughter who said the woman was breaking up their home. Mann was arraigned before Mayor J F Paschal in Batavia and the case continued to August 29.
