Clermont and surrounding counties see popular summer outings as Cub Scouts, den mothers, and cubmasters from Wilhiamsville Pack 157 attend at the Sportsmen’s grounds on Elk Lick Road. Training pow wow planned for September 29 at Lake Allyn.
Clermont County unit of the Ohio National Guard returns home proud after winning the 147th Regimental trophy for excellence in training and appearance at Camp McCoy. Four officers and sixty eight men, led by First Lieutenant Leon Kibler who recently recovered from an auto accident, are part of the achievement. First Sergeant John Davidson near Milford took the camp photos seen in last week’s Courier.
Residents report a Halloween prank sign shifted from the outskirts of Williamsburg to the Brushy Fork Road and Route 50 intersection near Owensville. Mrs Ed Quallen recalls it being placed last Halloween and moved again, as pranksters continue their joke.
Fireman Laffleur was treated at Christ Hospital for leg injuries after fighting a midnight blaze at Clermont Tire and Supply on Market Street Batavia. The fire likely started by boiler heat, damaging the building for several hundred dollars. Henry Stewart operates the business and Charles G. White owns the building. Willard Kalchek, who lives next door, spotted the fire and alerted the department.
Joe Bill Haas and Charles Haas of New Richmond were bound over to the Clermont County Grand Jury after a hearing before Justice Sterling Brown. They were arrested on a warrant by Floyd Hogel for assault with intent to kill. Hogel said the brothers stayed at his home late Saturday into Sunday and an agreement led to his severe head and facial injuries.
Two Goshen youths Theodore Ballman and Wimbert Davis returned home Wednesday after being sheltered at Louisville's childrens center. They had hitchhiked toward Nashville then went to work as caddies at Camargo Club, disappeared Thursday, prompting Sheriff Dericks to search along streams and Little Miami before a motorist turned them over to police.
William W. Malone of R R 3 Batavia pleaded guilty to DUI before Judge Harry Britton in Clermont County. His driving rights were suspended for one year, fined 500 dollars plus costs, and sentenced to six months in jail with the penalties suspended on good behavior. Malone was serving a previous assault and battery sentence at arraignment.
The Clermont County attendance officer post is open after the resignation of Morley Figgins. Former holder Ed Harris served nearly 20 years before his death, followed by Harold Brown who also served as county probation officer. Interested applicants should contact County Superintendent Frank Hoggatt.
Mrs. Lewis Benner of Amelia Ohio will appear on the 50 Club program airing at 12 noon Friday August 3 on WLW Television and WLW radio. She will be joined by three friends for a one hour telecast from Crosley Square Cincinnati where 50 women gather for luncheon music and audience participation stunts.
Clermont County will receive 23805.18 from the local government fund for the last half of 1951 and 43925.45 for 1952 under amended House Bill 605. Nine men are ordered to report for induction on August 2 and twenty called for pre induction physicals. a Batavia bus will transport the group at 8 30 a m August 20 for medicals.
The Mt Pisgah Community Club schedules a monthly square dance at the club house Saturday evening. Music will be provided by the club's musicians and refreshments will be available. Proceeds go toward building expenses and outfitting the new kitchen.
William Stansberry 44 of Mt Crab was killed when his car left Route 125 near Bethel and plunged into Back Run Creek Bed. Sheriff Dericks reported the 6:15 p.m. Tuesday wreck. body taken to Kennedy funeral home in Bethel.
Esther G. Bauer 86 of Sardinia Ohio loses brakes on Route 74 at curve near Batavia. Her car strikes a tree and hits a telephone pole. Passenger Margaret Maul 88 of Sardinia is taken to Christ Hospital for treatment.
Mr and Mrs Roy C Mitchell of Davis Pike Batavia announce their daughter Mary Elizabeth to Robert Smith son of Mr and Mrs Charles Smith of Hamlet Ohio. No wedding date has been set.
