County Jail Work Is Promised Jury
The grand jury heard county commissioners pledge jail repairs and new juvenile detention quarters. An architectural engineer will prepare plans and estimates for repair, plumbing, and wiring. Future juvenile cells over the county garage may be included. past juries urged these repairs. The jail, with 24 sleeping places, has housed 48 inmates.
Treasurer Announces Temporary Weekday Closing Hours
Byron Ross county treasurer said his office will close at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from May 4 to May 15 to process tax bills incoming checks and post payments arriving by mail. The change aims to ease a heavy workload.

A meeting of about 100 residents at W T public school heard regional postal officials promise a Union township branch office within months possibly by August 1. Ray C Ernst indicated a plan toward unified delivery and permanent addresses with letters to Amelia Batavia routes and Cincinnati Zone 45. Local officials warned against absorbing Union township into Cincinnati while Amelia and Batavia routes could extend service.

Beth Hyde 13 daughter of Owensville mayor won the Post Times Star WCrO spelling bee in Cincinnati and will represent the area at the National Spelling Bee in Washington June 7 13. She earned a 24 volume Britannica set a reading lamp and an all expense trip for herself and a parent. Coach Greta Thirey sixth grade Owensville teacher has guided champions to nationals for seven years and will travel as observer.

Knot Hole Season Opens With 1209 Boys Taking Field

Businessman Harvey Beach Dies at 41 Rites Held
Amelia businessman Harvey Beach 41 proprietor of the Tuxedo Feed and Farm Supply died suddenly Saturday at his home on Sprague Road near Bantam. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Powers Funeral Home. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery near New Richmond. He is survived by his widow Stephanie Rose nee Topa, three daughters Virginia Morgan Gladys Catherine and Harvey Beach Jr., his mother Mrs. Ralph McKinley and five brothers Homer W Harold L Beach Emer son Earl and Ralph McKinley Jr.
