Murder at N and W railroad camp near Afton
Afton Ohio area rail yard workers report the murder of cook D G Brooks of Hagerstown Maryland at the N and W camp above Batavia Saturday night. Luther Davis, employee of the same line, shot Brooks through the brain and left lung after a dispute over bread. Brooks died at 7 20. Coroner Curtis ruled death by gunshot. Sheriff Roberts and deputies pursued leads with no results. Davis fled the scene.

Drug Store Opening At Batavia
The Male Drug Store opened Saturday with strong turnout from town and country. The space, once a century ago a drug store for John Brown and Abel Smith, has served as a business room since, and Batavia now hosts two modern drug stores along with A C Nash's shop.

Boy Shoots Three In Family Shooting Incident
John Workman aged 12 and his siblings Eldon Betty and Henrietta visited Rosa Ross and handled an old shotgun. The weapon discharged injuring Eldon most, his shoulder receiving about 80 shot. Mrs. Ross was wounded in the hands. None of the others were seriously hurt. Doctors Colburn and J V Mott treated them.

Farm youth hurt by old revolver blast
Raymond Harris a 17 year old farm helper for Frank Taube near Forest Hill was struck in the stomach by a cartridge he attempted to explode with a hammer. He was taken to Bethesda hospital by Wm. Moore and is now recovering under Dr. J. W. Mott care.

The Field and Tract Meet at Whitaker school drew a large crowd last Friday with strong showings from both girls and boys. Afton edged Whitaker by three points to take first, Olive Branch third, and Forrest Hill fourth. Wilbur Meyer and Myrtle Jordan led scoring for boys and girls respectively, with notable contributions from Albert Tone, Thomas Tone, and Max Mesz. Post event, Whitaker defeated a combined Olive Branch and Aston team 16 to 0 in a championship baseball game, as Whitaker's season record stood at six wins and no losses with 90 runs scored.

Guilty of Larceny in Coondog Case at Batavia Court
W E Lewis a Cincinnati barber was found guilty of larceny for stealing a coon hound valued at 35 dollars from Harry Bickel Milford. A 43 person jury pool and 100 coon dog owners attended. The dog, bought then stolen, was later found with a game warden near Springfield Ohio who bought it from Lewis. The verdict came in fifteen minutes. Lewis jailed. defense by Carl Garland granted indigent status. George Gunderley who ran a grocery and filling station in East Batavia sold the business last week and leased the property with option to buy. The buyer is Chief White Eagle who, Saturday night near Perintown, met with an auto wreck on slippery roads but no injuries occurred.
