Grand Old Soldier John Jamieson Dies at 95
Longtime Batavia resident John Jamieson, a veteran of 1812 wars and a pioneer, passes after a storied life. He served as jailer, ran the Whetstone tavern, and was a revered Mason with deep Kentucky and Ohio roots. His lineage includes notable descendants and public figures in Batavia and surrounding counties. The funeral drew a large Masonic procession and tribute from numerous lodges across the region.
