Clermont County Draft Figures Show 719 in Service

A local draft board report counts 263 men in Board No 1 and 456 in Board No 2, totaling 719 in military service from Clermont County aside from Monday’s Fort Thomas inductions. Of these, 186 were in service when the act began or were too young to register, with 56 granted waivers. one deferment is noted for Frank Wiseman of Batavia who seeks Navy enlistment.

David Remley Visits Home On Leave From Pearl Harbor

David Remley, son of Mr and Mrs Homer Remley of Batavia, arrived home Monday night for a furlough from the Hawaiian war zone. He left Pearl Harbor after serving at sea since the Pearl Harbor attack and is the first active duty service member from Clermont County to return home.

Boy Scouts Pilgrimage Planned to Grant Birthplace

Clermont County Boy Scouts plan their annual pilgrimage to Point Pleasant Ohio birthplace of General U S Grant. Troops across the county will depart Sunday afternoon April 26 arriving before 3 p m with a 3 o clock parade led by a Scout Drum and Bugle Corps. Services at Grant Memorial Church follow under the Sons of the American Revolution and Department of State Museums with Rev Spear officiating. Public invited.

Clermont County League Reorganizes For Spring Baseball

The Clermont County Baseball League held its first meeting last Monday night and chose officers including Ted Minnich as President and Joe Schafro as Vice President. Ten teams were represented such as Williamsburg Dona worths Dodgers Goshen Milford Eagles New Richmond Giants Mt. Crab Edenton Hastings Merchants Shumards and Neville. Next meeting set for Monday night April 20 to post forfeits and adopt a league ball with schedule plans.

Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary Observed at Ashton Home

On April 12 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ashton and daughter Mary Lou about thirty five relatives and friends gathered with baskets to celebrate their twenty five years of marriage. Their older daughter and husband Mr and Mrs Harold Eveland presented a six pound wedding cake. Dr. William J. Kerr of the University of California medical school told the Pacific Northwest Medical association convention that corsets for men over 40 can prevent angina pectoris. He noted men often slim arms shoulders and legs yet gain weight in the stomach.

Clermont County Music Festival at Williamsburg

The Clermont County Music Festival will be held on April 17 1942 at 8 p m in the Williamsburg school auditorium. The program features All County Girls Glee Club All County Mixed Chorus All County Junior High Chorus and the All County Band. Dr Frank C Biddle directs the vocal groups and Mr Charles F Stokes directs the band. Both guest conductors are from Cincinnati. Admission is 27 cents and 3 cents tax total 30 cents.
