Prominent Batavian and ex-Treasurer of Clermont County Joseph Bicking dies at his Batavia home Tuesday morning April 6 1897 at 1:30 PM in his 84th year. A longtime merchant and public servant born in Brandywine PA 1824 he settled in Jackson township 1839 moved to Batavia 1858 and served as county treasurer 1871-73 and 1877-79. He was a Democrat and active in Odd Fellows and Mason lodges. survived by widow Elizabeth J Harlow and five children. Funeral Thursday at 2 PM at his residence with Rev Bell and Masonic Odd Fellows ceremonies.

D E Roberts of New Richmond Dies After Long Illness
D E Roberts a leading New Richmond citizen and brother in law to Judge Davis died at his home on Friday April 2 after a lengthy illness. He served in the 8th Kentucky Cavalry and the 54th Kentucky, attaining captain before mustering out in 1865. Born in 1842 in Brooklyn he later settled in New Richmond in 1867 and married Mary B Davis in 1868. He leaves a widow and several children including David a physician and Frank an attorney. Burial occurred Sunday with many mourners.
