Tragic Moonlight Jump From East Fork Bridge

A young woman, distraught by private sorrow, leapt from the East Fork Miami River bridge at Rocky Ford Bend. She was carried by the current, later found washed ashore. Hotel staff and physicians attempted revival, but she died soon after, her body recovered by the riverbank.

A young German, Julius Byer, newly arrived in Batavia, works for Sebastian Buerkle the beef merchant and borrows a wagon to haul his housekeeping. He returns with his load and more beer, missing hides, a gold watch and ring. He falls ill and is confined. Cincinnati detectives name him Dennis.

Ripley Sunday-School Convention Sees Strong Turnout

The Ripley Sunday-school convention met on Tuesday 24th with large attendance. Rev. J. F. Burnett presided as the meeting featured speeches by Rev. J. B. Smith of Georgetown and Dr. L. W. Bishop. District representatives were chosen for the State convention and Clermont county reporter duties assigned.

Two brothers Frank and Edgar Fitzwater of Elk Lick moved to Batavia to start a hardware business. A string of forged and unsigned notes, endorsed by others, led to attachable personal property, bank demands, and a wide financial crash. Edgar fled. Frank’s involvement appears uncertain but grave. Creditors suffer as sums near two thousand dollars vanish.

Easter Day Observances Highlight Church Festivities

Delightful services marked Easter Sunday across churches with ornate flowers and a white cross centerpiece. Children in white carried lilies while singing, with recitations and remarks from C. T.
