At about four yesterday Mia Pendergast of Burnet House stood with her baby near Bell Miller & Co at Sixth and Race when a man reached into her pocket. She cried out, the thief fled dropping two books. W H Hudson chased him and overpowered the suspect who insulted him. One pocketbook held sixty cents, another $101. The man, a 14 year old drinker from Linn and Ski, was captured.

Jail Break At Ozark Counts Several Robbers Among Escapees

One night a group of condemned Baldknob robbers led by John Matthews and Wiley Matthews escaped from Ozark jail. They cut through a brick wall and unlocked cells before leaving. W. P. Halbenseben Frank Johnson Wm Bedford Thomas Rooney and William Lossen also fled. two walkers and a youth named Racer stayed in their cells. Matthews and his nephew Willy were to be hanged May 18 for the murder of Charles Green and his father-in-law William Edens in March.
