The December 30 issue marks the Sun's last under current management. The note thanks unions, subscribers, and advertisers and pledges continued advocacy for labor, political activity, civic causes, and opposition to dictatorship in 1956.
Executive Secretary Steve Chevalier expresses gratitude to CIO Council delegates local union officers and International District Directors for their cooperation during 1955. He pledges service 24 hours daily and wishes God's richest blessings for the New Year and the days ahead.
About $500000 was raised by CIO unions and members to aid Northeastern flood and hurricane victims. A $187,721.16 check was given to the American Red Cross in Washington, part of more than $300000 previously donated for rehabilitation. President Joseph A. Beirne of the CIO Communications Workers chaired the presentation as committee head.
Steve Chevalier profiles Jack Hurst, a longtime gangling force in Cincinnati labor, noting his 21 years as President of the AFL Central Labor Council and roles with the Carpenters Union and Civil Service Commission.
