Murder suspect declared sane. Woodards to stand trial
John Elmer Woodards, 25, charged with first degree murder in the July 13 death of 82 year old Mrs. Margaret Van Arsdale, has been found sane by Lima State Hospital physicians and will be returned to Lorain County for trial. Judge John D. Pineura, who committed Woodards to Lima for mental examination, said a hearing on the report is likely next week. Woodards lived with his wife at 5655 Jaycox Road, North Ridgeville, and allegedly battered the Columbia Township widow at her Royalton Road home. The Lima report cites that Woodards understands the charges but cannot counsel in his own defense.
