Thousands in the Tampico area are reported at risk of starvation following a devastating hurricane. Lieutenant Colonel Tomas Resendez of the Mexican Air Service said he dropped food and medicine to stranded people after a reconnaissance flight.
Weirton and Steubenville strikers enter the fourth day of peaceful picketing as Amalgamated Association officials seek a conference with Ernest Weir, National Steel Board chairman, en route from the West. Union leaders vow to maintain momentum until recognition, while Carnegie Steel in Mingo Junction reports no strikes and plans to resume operations.
Dr. H. G. Southard state director of health warned Ohio farmers and hunters to be careful of poisonous snakes as they move toward their winter dens. He noted rattlesnakes persist in Central and Southern Ohio and water moccasins along the Ohio River. A rattlesnake was killed near Columbus this week.
In Hamilton Colorado a 21 month old girl, Lucille Crysel, daughter of Tad and Elizabeth Crysel, drowned after falling into six inches of standing water in an eight callon crack. Red Cross life saving squad worked forty five minutes trying to resuscitate her.

Former French prime minister Edouard Herriot lay ill in Lyons on September 29 with a kidney infection. His condition worsened as his temperature rose to 191.1 degrees, prompting continued medical observation and care.
The Federal Route 20 Association plans its third annual meeting at the Telephone Building auditorium on Monday Oct 2 at 730 PM. Staff from the State highway department in Columbus and two division engineers will present. Delegations from Dover Ridgeville Elyria Oberlin and others from towns to the west will attend. The group was formed three years ago in Oberlin to promote highway and tourist traffic.
The Elyria Memorial Hospital board of trustees accepted one resignation and announced two new appointments at yesterday’s meeting. Dietitian Alice Brack Lindberg resigned to start housekeeping. Evelyn Head was named the new dietitian, starting Monday after Purdue and Ohio State training. Ruth Jaffa of Cleveland was named physiotherapist for the Gates Hospital for Crippled Children to assist supervisor Hazel Snyder, expanding the hospital’s therapy staff.
The Elyria Eagles American Legion Drum and Eagle Corps, sponsored by the local Aerie and Legion post, will head Akron's NRA parade on October 12. Heart J. Berrodin invited them, and the corps accepted, following a strong showing at the Cleveland Eagles Convention. John A. Abel spoke on Old Age Pension, urging support ahead of November 7. Eight candidates were initiated, and the County Old Age Pension committee plans a meeting next Tuesday at the Eagles' Home.

Board chairman Wagner will pursue direct talks with Ford officials in Detroit after Ford shut the Chester plant blocking local mediation.
