Mercy Health Lorain ends trauma program next month
Mercy Health Lorain will end its Level II trauma designation Oct 15 after not recertifying with the American College of Surgeons. The move leaves University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center as Lorain County’s sole Level III center, with Mercy continuing ED care for emergencies.

Lorain County expands dog kennel to 60 dogs
Lorain County officials broke ground on a 1.4 million expansion at 301 Hadaway Street in Carlisle Township to increase kennel capacity from 40 to 60 dogs. The project, funded by ARPA, a 250000 state grant and private donations, adds 20 cages and space for volunteers and adopting area, finishing in spring.

Vermilion TIF proposal faces school funding cap clash
Firelands Schools balk at a 30 year TIF plan for Vermilion Landing a 300 million 600 home mixed use project by DBR Commercial Realty. The deal would divert 100 percent of district property taxes into a public improvements pool with a 1.2 million cap and compensation offer while homeowners still pay taxes. Treasurer Keri Angney says without abatement the district would gain about 3 million in total taxes based on projected homes and costs.
