Court weighs impact of end to voting “golden week” in Ohio
The GOP backed law ends a weekend early voting period, shortening the pre election window from 35 to about 28 29 days. The ACLU and Ohio NAACP and League of Women Voters chapters sue, saying the rule will hinder voting especially for low income and black residents who rely on weekend and evening hours, with parishioners in black churches counting on rides after Sunday services. The ACLU says the full appellate review could disrupt election processes while parties build the record. Ohio election officials say local boards are prepared to start early voting despite the changes.
