The Cleveland Indians won the opener 9-2 against the Chicago White Sox but lost 4-3 to the Minnesota Twins in a day night doubleheader. Oakland leads the wild card by 1 1/2 games as Cleveland faces seven remaining games, with caution urged by manager Manuel.
Lorain council ready to back Mayor Foltin's request to move 233000 from other budget areas to lift the medical and hospital fund to 826000 for the last three months. Finance committee also favors hiring a medical insurance consultant to review the program and determine proper fund balance.
Admiral King High School will hold a public meeting for parents to question principal Anthony Cassano about school issues. The session runs 6 30 to 8 pm Wednesday in the school gym, and students are not allowed. School board president Keith Lilly says Cassano has apologized for remarks and believes comments were misunderstood.
Melissa Dittmann reports Lorain Community Health Partners runs full page ads in local papers backing its stance in a nurse contract dispute. Union President Dave Regan dismisses the ads as disingenuous and urges federal mediation. About 625 nurses are represented at the hospital.
Officials debated Lorain County government expansion at Oberlin Public Library in a forum sponsored by the Lorain County League of Women Voters. About 100 residents attended as proponents and opponents pressed questions, with Assistant County Prosecutor Gerald Innes calling it an experiment with no binding legal precedent.
