OhioPennsylvania quake rattles region in minutes

A 5.2 magnitude earthquake centered near the Ohio Pennsylvania border rocked parts of four states. Felt from Detroit to Buffalo, the tremor lasted about 10 seconds at 3 53 p m Friday. No injuries or damage were reported though courthouse file cabinets swayed and residents recalled the shaking.

Georges pounds Keys with 105 mph winds and rain

Hurricane Georges battered the Florida Keys with heavy rain and 105 mph winds. Homes and houseboats were damaged as residents ignored evacuation orders. Levy fears drive EPd recruit to resign

Elyria police recruit Patrolman Christopher Eaton resigned citing fear of layoff if the 0.5 percent city income tax renewal fails in November. He told Police Chief Michael Medders the tax renewal affects his family and offers no guarantees. If the renewal fails, about 1.7 million could be cut from the police budget, risking 25 to 35 officer layoffs. The six academy recruits would be among first to lose jobs.

A man who walked into a yard to retrieve a child’s ball was beaten by 46 year old Wayne Schafer on Friday. Schafer of Sheriff Street was charged with felonious assault and held without bond in Elyria City Jail. The injured man was Donald.
