Lebanon cabinet quits to push national unity government
Prime Minister Shafik Wazzan announced his cabinet’s resignation hours after a cease-fire arranged by the United States and Saudi Arabia halted Lebanon’s civil war. He said the move clears the way for a national unity cabinet to rebuild the homeland. President Amin Gemayel has not decided on accepting the resignation. The cease-fire aimed to foster a broad dialogue among Lebanon’s factions, with international observers to monitor the truce. Six to eight lines of clashes were reported earlier, with casualties and continued concern over security in Beirut and surrounding areas.
