Lorain schools weigh levy drop if income tax passes
Lorain Board of Education will not seek renewal of a property tax levy next year if voters approve a 1 percent income tax in November. The income tax would raise about $6 million for the district, which now collects $3.5 million from the expiring levy. The panel approved a $70.5 million budget for 1991, about $5.3 million above 1990, with $36 million for instruction and $23 million cut for capital needs to hit the final figure. Also noted was a magnet program funding review and a staff leave of absence for Steven W. Meggitt, called to serve with the Army Reserve in the Middle East.
