Rationing officials in Washington consider a point system to allocate meat weekly, replacing the coupon method used for sugar. The plan would set meat availability by points per person, tying supply to demand and encouraging conservation amid wartime shortages.
Officials at the Office of Price Administration discuss universal rationing to regulate meat purchases. The plan includes ration books and point systems to limit pork and beef, with distributor controls and December timing for lists.
The Maritime Commission announced the goal of millions in ship production under President Roosevelt’s program. It stated that the target for new ships and guns seems achievable, given available materiel and resources. By Sunday, 466 merchant ships will have been delivered into service since the first launch on September.
