Elyria Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge says he acted properly when he acquitted Nancy Smith and Joseph Allen in the Head Start molestation case after losing confidence in the 1994 guilty verdicts. State prosecutors claim Burge overstepped his authority by ordering new sentencing hearings, while the 9th District Court of Appeals has ruled Burge could acquit Smith but must resentence Allen.

Amherst police say Max A. Torgerson 21 and Darrin Karnik 18 were charged with multiple counts of sexual offenses for allegedly having sex with a girl under 16 and streaming the encounters on adult sites. Investigators say the incidents occurred at least twice in Amherst homes.
Alyson Sweany the mother of Jesse Crum Jr. facing endangering children charges in his March death pleaded no contest to unlawful congregation on a public sidewalk in Oberlin. She faced a May 15 shouting match with her boyfriend Peter Jones who had been a suspect in Jesse’s death before he hanged himself June 15. Prosecutors dropped disorderly conduct while intoxicated and disturbing the peace. Sweany was fined $100 and to complete 25 hours of community service.
