Dayton VA nursing home patients may stay amid policy shift
About 150 patients at the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center nursing home were allowed to remain for as long as needed after opposition from families. The VA had planned to limit onsite nursing care to severely disabled veterans or those admitted before November 30, 1999 as part of a western Ohio care plan. VA spokesman Lawrence Tucker cited a shift toward closer home care and community facilities, while families cited non service related conditions like Alzheimer's and strokes.
