18 Year Old Lad Under Death Sentence In Louisville
Herbert Workman, 18, of Tesla West Virginia, the youngest of three men found guilty in Jefferson circuit court for the March 1947 killing of Vernon Hodge in Louisville, faces the death penalty after a rapid verdict on armed robbery charges. The trio fled Fort Knox, murdered Hodge by binding, bagging, and weighting him, then dumping him in the Kentucky River near Viper Perry County. Workman testified he joined the others due to homesickness and prison break, while his mother attended the verdict with visible distress. The men also face additional murder indictments in Perry County where trials were held for McPeak and Nease.
